These Pilots Fly Out Adopted Dogs to New Homes for Free

After getting his pilot license in 2017, California native Julian Javor sought a way to “fly with purpose.” He discovered you could volunteer to fly rescue animals to their new homes, and that’s how Pet Rescue Pilots was born.

Pet Rescue Pilots are a group of pilots and animal lovers who are joined with the goal of helping animals reach their new homes much quicker than it would usually take. The group partners with non-profit rescue organizations and flies out on their request. Their most frequent passengers are older dogs who were lucky enough to find a much happier environment to spend their days in than California.

Understandably, some of you might be worried about how dogs feel when they are 5,000 feet above the ground but it turns out the journey isn’t all that scary for them.

“Actually, most dogs actually fall asleep shortly after take off,” the Pet Rescue Pilots website explains. “The sound of the engine in the twin Cessna aircraft that we currently operate is actually not that loud, and it provides a constant hum that seems to lull them to sleep.”

Of course, Pet Rescue Pilots respond to other animals in need, with cats and birds also being frequent flyers. So far, the group has performed more than 2,500 rescues in total, and fortunately, they don’t intend to stop anytime soon.
