This Boy Saved a Baby Magpie and Now They’re Best Friends

Ruben and Peta Peter are best friends, except one is a human and the other is a bird. Their story began when the young boy found a small baby magpie that had fallen out of its nest. The bird was only one day old and in need of help.

Without hesitation, Ruben scooped up the magpie and brought it inside. He and his mom put the bird into a box and knew they need to act fast if they wanted to save the little one. They worked together to care for the magpie and over the next few days, they watched as it grew stronger and more active.

“I would feed her all day every single day,“ Reuben says in an interview for The Dodo, adding that he would put on some magpie noises so Peta Peter can learn how to be a real magpie. Eventually, the bird was ready to fly.

“She jumped out of my hand and actually flew. She has changed my life a lot and I really appreciate her,“ he adds.

Reuben’s mom wanted the world to see their beautiful bond, so she started an Instagram account dedicated to these two lovebirds. Enjoy more adorable pictures of the pair below.
