This is the Only Organization in the World Dedicated to Saving Grevy’s Zebra

Established in January 2007, the Grevy’s Zebra Trust (GZT) is the only organization in the world with a mission dedicated solely on conserving the Grevy’s zebra.

Grevy’s zebra are taller, have narrower stripes, a white belly, larger rounded ears, and a brown muzzle, compared to more common plain zebra. They are included in Africa’s most endangered large mammals and today, fewer than 2500 remain due to climate change, habitat loss, and competition with livestock.

The first ever national census of Grevy’s zebra through citizen science took place on January 31, 2016. Called the Great Grevy’s Rally (GGR) it aids GZT and their conservation partners to safeguard the future of the Grevy’s zebra.

The organization believes that the success and sustainability of Grevy’s zebra conservation is dependent on having the support of the people within its premises. That’s why they invest heavily in community outreach to empower communities to start their own responsible environmental stewardship.

One of the major threats to these gigantic animals is limited access to water. GZT manages dry season water access to alleviate the stress on Grevy’s zebra, ensuring they have access throughout the long dry season. This initiative considerably improves the chances of survival for the zebra populations in the affected areas.

You can support Grevy’s zebra conservation by giving donations through the Wildlife Conservation Network. Check out their latest updates below.
