Volunteer at Donkey Shelter Falls in Love With a Baby Donkey

The Longhopes Donkey Shelter opened its doors 20 years ago when founder, Kathy Dean and her husband decided they would make an equine shelter to serve donkeys in the Rocky Mountains. Longhopes is a non-profit organization that accepts volunteers from all around the US, and Claudia Lifton became one of them.

“When I started volunteering and Longhopes, I met Rizzo and she was already pregnant and gave birth to Frenchie a few months after I started volunteering,” Lifton shared on The Dodo. “If felt like she really just trusted me.”

Their friendship got so strong that Frenchie would always come for hugs and kisses.

“Frenchie is so spunky and playful and inquisitive and sweet and gentle and loving,” she added. “She can run around in circles for hours, but then loves a good cuddle session. She’ll just snuggle up in your lap and let you pet her belly and give her kisses all day as Mama watches closely by.”
