Crows are known to use an impressive range of sounds to communicate with each other. They are also experts in mimicking other sounds, something that one dog recently learned in an unexpected way.
In a viral Instagram reel shared by user Shandelle’s Garden, a crow can be seen sitting on a branch and barking at the dog Mischa in the yard. Mischa is so confused by what is happening and doesn’t even bark back, probably wondering what kind of a strange dog is up there on a tree.
“This crow is literally barking at my dog!!” Shandelle’s Garden wrote in the caption of the reel.
As you might guess, the reel amused a lot of Instagram users, some of whom shared their own stories about crows speaking other “languages. “
“I have one that lives at my house and meows like a cat, “one Instagram user commented.
“There was a crow in my old neighborhood that would imitate my dog too! Oooh, my dog would get so upset, I absolutely loved it, “another added.
Studies have shown that crows can imitate up to 100 different sounds, including human speech. They sometimes do it to show off to a potential partner, and other times, they just like to confuse humans and other species, like in Mischa’s case.
