Wild Bear Nicknamed Oreo After Stealing Cookies Around Los Angeles, California

There’s something truly irresistible about Oreos, and one wild bear in California went the extra mile to get its hands on these delicious cookies. The residents of the Los Angeles neighborhood Monrovia nicknamed the bear Oreo after it started breaking into homes in search of desserts.

Oreo the Bear made the headlines after breaking into a Monrovia home and fleeing the scene of the crime with a bag of Oreo cookies in its mouth. According to KTLA5, the bear in question broke into another home and stole Oreos just a day later, earning itself a new nickname.

“That’s why we named him Oreo. He’s not just roaming around. He’s actually going into the houses. So now, it’s a very scary thing to leave a window open or your backyard door open or anything,” local resident Vina Khoury told KTLA5.

Khoury dealt with bears breaking into her own house in the past, opening screens, getting inside the house, pushing windows, and even stealing a chocolate cake on one occasion.

She’s not the only resident of Monrovia dealing with this problem—bears are often spotted in this area due to its proximity to the San Gabriel Mountains. One Monrovia couple recently made the headlines after a mama bear with two cubs broke into their backyard and took a swim in their pool.
