Woman Apologizes For Her Howling Elderly Pug with the Cutest Note

A senior pug named Charleston Chew has just moved into an apartment building with his owner in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

He’s yet to familiarize with his new surroundings and as a result, he started to howl. Charleston is already 11 years old and no longer a young strong pup he used to be but he had overcome the challenges that come with aging.

His eyesight began to weaken last year and the elderly pug developed a direct technique for getting attention from his owner, Sharla Wilson, wherever she may be. He howls, as in, really loudly.

“It’s the most horrific sound you’ve ever heard,” Sharla told The Dodo. “His howl is crazy. It’s a startling noise, to say the least. It sounds like some sort of alien life form.”

She adopted Charleston when he was still a puppy and they’ve been best buddies ever since.

“I have to physically touch him — then he’s happy and well again. He just wants to know where I am,” Wilson said. “He’s very quirky and very spoiled.”

There are times when Charleston will howl very early in the morning, after getting lost on his way back to bed. “He’s just bananas,” she said. “He’s a little grandpa.”

Sharla has gotten used to her noisy pug’s terrible howling but since moving into their new pad, she’s worried her neighbors might be frightened by his howling.

“No one had complained yet. I was told that it was a quiet building, so I made a note thinking we’d get ahead of it,” Sharla shared. “I put this sign up as an advisement, like, ‘Sorry everybody. This maniac is going to howl.’”

Megan Jones was among the first people to spot the note. “I accidentally rode the elevator to the fifth floor,” Megan told The Dodo. “I was annoyed with myself but then looked up to see Charleston’s sign which made the inconvenience totally worth it.”

She posted her approval via Twitter and her tweet quickly went viral.

Sharla was surprised when she learned that thousands of people were sharing her letter online and she knows her dog wouldn’t mind the attention he’s getting.

“He loves everybody — dogs, cats, kids — everybody and everything. He’s an absolute lovebug in all respects,” she shared. “Everyone is his new best friend.”
