Woman Helps Rescue Opossum Stuck on a Tall Utility Pole

South Australia native Danielle Van Bakel was in her yard when she witnessed an unusual sight. An animal climbed one of the tall utility poles close to her house and was just chilling there.

Van Bakel decided to check out the animal and realized it was an opossum. And the little guy wasn’t just chilling; he was actually stuck on the pole. She contacted the Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue, who immediately sent someone there to check on the animal.

As it turned out, the opossum wasn’t in the best situation. His tail was stuck, and he couldn’t go up or down. Fortunately, a Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue staff member quickly organized a rescue mission and saved the opossum.

Van Bakel shared the story on her Facebook page, sharing that the opossum likely climbed the pole to escape a neighbor’s dog. According to her estimation, he might have even spent more than seven hours stuck.

Luckily, Van Bakel’s help came at the right moment, as the opossum was taken to the Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue clinic and is doing well.

“Little poss is at our on-site clinic and receiving treatment for dehydration. Thankfully, his tail seems to be ok. He’s very lucky you spotted him!” Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue Ltd shared the update by commenting on Van Bakel’s post.
