]]>Polar bears are the largest land carnivores on earth, and they are an integral part of the local ecosystem in Churchill. Every fall, polar bears migrate through the area in search of food, and many of them spend the winter in and around Churchill. This makes Churchill a prime location for viewing and photographing polar bears in the wild.
Tourism is a major industry in Churchill, and many visitors come to the town specifically to see the polar bears. There are several tour companies that offer guided tours to see the polar bears, both on land and by air. These tours provide a unique opportunity to see these majestic animals up close and personal.

Before you plan to donate your Christmas tree to the local zoo next winter, you should know that elephants don’t actually eat the trees that have been used for the holiday. They get fresh, moist trees that local vendors didn’t sell.

]]>One of the reasons is the pack mentality. Despite the fact they’ve been domesticated a long time ago, many dogs still feel the need to be part of a group. If they have no other dogs to group with, they can consider their humans for the role. The same instinct is making your dog watch you closely and want you to touch them.
Another reason for your dog following you everywhere is the bond you two have. When puppies are around six-months-old, they can start thinking of their owners as if they were their mothers. It’s often seen that older dogs can also bond with humans who take care of them. A dog that trusts you and wants to protect you will often go with you.
There’s another explanation for your dog following you around—they may be hoping for some treats or attention. This is possible if you’ve been using positive reinforcement and treats while training the dog.

]]>We live in a time when stress is a normal part of everyday life, but it doesn’t have to be like that for you. If you’re a dog owner, chances are your stress and anxiety levels are much lower than they would be if you had no pet.
If you’re not someone who’s regularly motivated to exercise, getting a dog will do the trick. The owners of the pets that require often walking are more active and generally in better shape. Even if you’re not a fitness person, you can absolutely benefit from daily walks with a dog.
Having a pet is also great for your mental health. Pet owners are more likely to manage long-lasting relationships as pets are great emotional support and help people feel less lonely and more extraverted.
You know how your pet seems to feel that you’re in pain so they come and stay by your side until you get better? This is an absolutely amazing benefit of being a pet owner. Having a pet to love you unconditionally can help you get through many rough times.

]]>Honestly speaking, science doesn’t have a definitive answer for this. There are a few theories that may help you understand your furry pets better. Veterinarian Dr. Rebecca Greenstein told Reader’s Digest that one of the theories is that the sink shape makes cats feel safe, “There have been studies to show that cat stress levels are significantly decreased when they have access to a hiding spot like a box, so we can extrapolate a sink may have a similar appeal.”
Cats could also be using the sink to cool down after sitting in a warm place like a windowsill, the radiator, or your computer while you’re working (familiar?). Sinks are typically raised, and cats feel dominant and secure when they’re in an elevated position.
There’s absolutely no harm in letting your cat sit in the sink if it doesn’t bother you that much. If you don’t like it, you can try keeping the bathroom door shut.

Now, whenever your dog deserves a delicious treat, you can pick out one and let them enjoy it!
Why is it important for the watermelon to be seedless? If a dog eats too many watermelon seeds, it may lead to an intestinal blockage. You can even pack them in a cooler for a fun day at a beach or in the park!

]]>A survey done in Australia examined the benefits of dog ownership for preschoolers. They found that children as young as 2-years-old can have social-emotional benefits from this relationship.
“Our findings showed that young children who walked or played with their family dog more were more likely to have pro-social behaviours such as sharing and cooperating,” said Hayley Christian, a senior research fellow with the Telethon Kids Institute and The University of Western Australia for This Dog’s Life.
The researchers surveyed parents of preschoolers, asking many different questions about physical activity and social-emotional development. The results show that preschoolers who played with dogs a few times per week and went on family walks with them at least once a week appear to be pro-social. There’s a 30 percent less chance for them to have problems with peers compared to kids without a dog.

]]>One company in the UK aired a commercial for dog food in 2012 that was created specifically to attract the dogs. The commercial included high pitch sounds that people can’t hear and had a goal to captivate the dogs so their owners would pay attention and get them that specific brand of dog food. That didn’t work as they imagined and left everyone wondering if dogs even react to TV at all.
Dogs pretty much see TV as a part of the real world. They see it in the same colors as they do the world around them (dichromatic – yellow and blue). They react to similar content, like commands, other dogs barking, etc. A 2013 study found that dogs are able to recognize other dogs on screen.
When it comes to content not related to dogs, they don’t really show interest, as shown in another study.

]]>If you’re currently spending all your time with your dog, it’s time to ease the pet into separation so they don’t have to deal with it all at once. “Your dog shouldn’t regress into separation anxiety issues if you stick to your training wherever you can,” Dr. Adam Boyko, a canine geneticist told This Dog’s Life.
One of the best things you can do is to start leaving your dog alone for a few minutes at a time and then extending the time. Make sure to give your dog some alone time every day so he can relax and understand that it’s normal. As long as there are periods when you don’t see each other, it will be okay when you get back to work and your daily errands.
