Whilst at the shelter they were looking for an adopter that would keep them together. That is when Maddie and Nick came into the picture.

“When we adopted Waffles and Hemingway, our hope was that they would settle in well, and they would become part of the family and get along with everyone. And that hope has become realized. And now Hemingway has Peabody [the horse] to take care of, instead of just Waffles,” Maddie told The Dodo and added that Waffles is on his way to become a therapy horse and that they have been a joy to them.

“She was smaller than Cooper’s paw,” their human mom told The Dodo. “I mean, their first meeting was honestly the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. It was the sweetest thing. I let him go and was like, on guard ready to see what happens. And he honestly just put his head down to her level. And she just put her paw on his snout, like immediate this little connection.”

“My dog Ashlyn wasn’t really sure of the trio when they first arrived,” they wrote on their Instagram. “However now that a few days have passed she has adopted them like they’re her own puppies. She is extremely protective of them and stops on our walks if one lags behind. The kits are doing extremely well now and are already starting to grow. So daily exercise has become part of our routine.”

“After weeks of applying for any baby kitten available for adoption, I finally received an email from a rescue in Brooklyn,” Bubba and Rue’s owner shared on their personal website. “They told me they had a litter of kittens that were 7 weeks old and they would be ready the following day. As hard as it was choosing only one, Rue stood out like no other and I took her home with me that day. She was the only all orange baby, almost identical coloring to Bubba. It was meant to be.”

Bubba who was also rescued as a three months old puppy adores kittens. And he was filled with joy Rue came to her new home.

“After a few hours of adjusting to her new home, Rue had no problem climbing on Bubba’s sleeping body and fell asleep herself. They instantly connected and are now inseparable,” she added. There is barely a moment when they are apart.”

Madden’s mom Christina explained what happened. “Last week, a friend posted an image of the cat in our cleft moms group. This kitty was taken in by a rescue group in Minnesota,” she said. “We knew immediately that this kitty was meant to be part of our family. only does he have a cleft lip like our 7-year-old son Madden, he also has complete heterochromia iridum, like Madden. They were destined to be best friends. Funny how a pet can make you feel less alone.”
