Animals are usually quite protective of their babies. But one female raccoon named Roxie has so much trust in her human friend that she feels comfortable introducing her young ones to them every year.

Animal activist Brittany Rose Seidel met Roxie after buying a new home. The previous resident told her that the raccoon occasionally comes for a visit and is quite friendly.

Seidel quickly developed a bond with Roxie, and the raccoon ended up coming quite often, either to get some food or just to greet her. But one day, Roxie decided to bring some company; her babies.

As it turned out, this wasn’t the end of it. Each time that Roxie had a new litter and the babies were strong enough to walk on their own, she would bring them for a meet and greet.

Seidel recently welcomed a baby of her own and decided to return the favor and introduce it to Roxie. The baby ended up being quite intrigued by the animal and they are also on the path of becoming great friends.

“I trust Roxie the most, so she only interacts with her,” Seidel shared. “And, of course, I’m always there to supervise.”

Raccoons are opportunistic animals and are always on the lookout to score some easy food. Apparently, they are not just going through trash cans anymore; they have also started intercepting food deliveries.

TikTok user Caterina Sevares recently shared a video that shows a raccoon stealing tacos that were delivered to her doorstep. When Sevares opens the door to bring the food inside her apartment, she notices that the paper bag is torn with several taco shells lying on the ground.

Standing in the hallway is a raccoon who doesn’t even look sorry for what he did. Instead, he starts walking towards the food again, seemingly wanting to get the rest of it.

“Bro raccoons run my apartment complex I can’t even,” Sevares wrote in the caption of the video, which received 5.5 million views since being shared in February.

While some TikTok users felt sorry about Sevares having her food stolen, others were quite amused by the fact that the raccoon saw an opportunity to get some free food and took it.

“He really stood up and said I bet you won’t fight about it,” one TikToker commented.

“He came back and was like, you might as well let me have the rest,” another added.

Raccoons are far from ideal pets, being unpredictable, high maintenance, and won’t hesitate to bite you. Still, this didn’t prevent Twitter) user Stacy Jo Rost’s parents from adopting one.

Rost, who works as a radio host at Seattle Sports, shared the story on social media about how she found out her parents adopted a wild raccoon when she visited them for Christmas.

According to Rost, her parents lost their dog two years ago and had a hard time dealing with it.

“Unfortunately my stepdad, Rick, has found the worst way to cope: feeding a one-year old raccoon and letting him live on their porch. His name is Little Rick aka Rickoon,” Rost wrote in the post while attaching a photo of Little Rick.

Rost went on to share more about Little Rick, revealing that her parents are treating the little trash panda with all sorts of goodies. They are making him breakfast, giving him toys, and have even crafted a bed so he can sleep in.

Of course, Rost tried to explain to her parents that having a raccoon as a pet is a bad idea, but it is safe to say that they didn’t take her advice.

“Little Rick is his dog now, I can’t change this,” Rost added. “He got him a little bed and giant blueberries. I did not get either of those things for Christmas.”

A raccoon named Little Hands was only four weeks old when he ended up abandoned by his kind besides the road. The animal was in bad shape, and who knows what would happen if a kind-hearted animal lover Nikki Robinson didn’t find him.

At first, Robinson decided to try her luck with rescue centers and wildlife rehabilitation organizations in the area, hoping they could give proper care to the raccoon. But all those places told her that they couldn’t help him and even recommended that she gets him euthanized.

Robinson then took the matter into her own hands and nursed the raccoon back to health with the help of her mom Linda. They named him Little Hands and developed a strong bond with the animal despite knowing that they’d have to let him back to the wild at some point.

After two and a half months, Nikki and Linda set Little Hands free, believing they’d never see the adorable raccoon again. But they were wrong.

It turns out that Little Hands grew fond of them and didn’t intend to disappear. He returned after a while and continued to pay them visits from time to time.

“[My mom] has a porch swing where she sits outside, and he would come up and literally crawl onto the swing and sit beside her and just want his butt and chin scratched,” Robinson revealed in a chat with Dodo. “He wanted his snuggles, then he’d have his food and wander off.”

Since releasing Little Hands to the wild, the mother and daughter saved a number of raccoons and took care of them until they could survive on their own. And just like Little Hands, some of them also occasionally drop by to get a bite and some snuggles.

Depending on where you live, you may have seen raccoons going through your trash can on a regular basis, so it’s odd to hear that they are conscious about washing their food.

With a water source nearby, a raccoon will dunk its food into it vigorously multiple time, rotating it to get all the dirt out. At least that’s what it looks like from the outside. There’s one thing that makes impossible to know if the purpose of this action is to actually clean the food: raccoons have been seen “dunking” their food in the air, as well, if there’s no water source visible.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BvyxMEngyRw/

Why do they do it then? No one is sure. It may have something to do with the tactile part of a meal, as raccoons have sensitive fingers so it may just feel nice to perform this ritual.
