The post Have You Ever Seen Cheetah and Tortoise Share a Meal? appeared first on Our Funny Little Site.
]]>Carson Springs Wildlife, based in Gainesville, Florida, recently shared a clip of a cheetah named Tuesday and a tortoise named Penzi eating from the same bowl. The two animals looked like they truly enjoyed their mealtime while being careful not to disturb each other.
To make it even more interesting, Tuesday snacked on veggies despite cheetahs being known as carnivores. Apparently, the big cat decided it was time to try a vegetarian diet and actually liked it.
“Tuesday loves to eat Penzi’s diet!!” Carson Springs Wildlife wrote in the caption of the video hinting that this might be a recurring occurrence.
The video received a lot of attention on social media, getting 700K likes and thousands of comments. Instagram users were impressed with the cheetah’s vegetarian diet as well as how the pair gets so well together.
“Wow! Never realized cheetahs can be omnivorous!” one person wrote in the comments section.
“This the coolest thing I’ve seen all year,” another person added.

]]>It turned out that the iguana didn’t want or was unable to move. It remained sitting on the fence for two days, causing Nunez to become concerned. She decided to publish a post on Facebook, looking to reach anyone who is able to help out.
“Because we are concerned and don’t want him to come to any harm (from our cats or otherwise) and we too old to run behind a dinosaur … he’s been there for 2 days now without food or water and we doh know what to do,” Nunez wrote in a post while attaching couple of videos.
Nunez’s pleas were quickly answered by the El Socorro Centre for Wildlife Conservation. The organization sent one staffer who picked up the reptile and took it to their rescue center for examination with the intention of releasing it into the wild. It turned out that the iguana was a female that was possibly carrying eggs and was “seeking warmth.”
“So glad we were able to save her and allow her to live out her days comfortably,” Nunez shared in a caption of the rescue video.

]]>The video, posted on Dr. Cliffe’s Instagram, shows a mama sloth climbing down a vine while holding a baby in her arms. Once they reach the surface of the water, they both take a few sips before climbing back up.
Dr. Cliffe offered more information about the phenomenon in the video caption. According to her, there is a special river in Costa Rica where sloths regularly come down from the trees to drink water. Being “creatures of habit,” sloths enjoy their refreshment in the same intervals, “every sunny day at 11 am and 2 pm.” And it is pretty fascinating how they learn when is the right time to do so.
“Baby sloths spend a long time with mom, mimicking her every move, even learning the perfect time to take a refreshing drink!” Dr. Cliffe explains.

]]>With a running speed of up to 88.5 km/h (55 mph), pronghorns are the fastest land mammal in North America and the second-fastest in the world after the cheetah.
Even though they’re commonly known as American antelopes, pronghorns belong to a completely different family. The giraffe and okapi are actually its closest living relatives.
Pronghorns owe their name to their unique horns. Males have horns with a forward-pointing tine coming off each side of them, while females tend to have smaller horns with barely visible “prongs”.
Pronghorns’ movements are quite fascinating to witness because they have at least 13 different gaits, including one that reaches up to 20 feet per stride.
Pronghorns are much more prone to migration than other North American land mammals. Their migration route covers more than 260 km (160 mi), which is quite a rare phenomenon in the U.S.

]]>Moose stand tall among all the other deer species, with male moose (known as bulls) averaging around 6-7 feet. In addition to being the tallest deer species, they’re also the second-largest land animal in North America, behind the American bison.
The name moose originates from the Algonquin language. The native words “moz” or “mons” can be translated as “eater of twigs”, hinting at moose’s herbivore diet.
If you think you could outrun a moose, think again because even calves tend to be faster than humans by the time they’re five days old. That’s because they grow at an incredible speed, gaining about one to two pounds a day in the beginning.
Moose’s swimming abilities are just as impressive since they can dive 20 feet underwater and stay there for up to 30 seconds because they can close their nostrils when exposed to water pressure.
Moose shed their antlers after the breeding season only to retain them in the spring, and that’s not a coincidence. Shedding antlers helps moose conserve energy during cold winter months.

]]>The video shows one pine marten rocking itself on a flat outdoor swing while the other one climbs the ropes. Soon, they both try to enjoy the flat swing before getting into a playful argument.
Humphreys initially shared the clip on Ardnamurchan Wildlife Watch Facebook Group before it was later picked up by the Mammal Society, an organization focused on protecting and restoring the British mammal population. According to Humphreys, pine martens playing on the swing set is a “nightly occurrence” in his garden.
“Pine martens are one of the rarest native mammals in Britain,” the Mammal Society wrote in the caption of the video. “These native carnivores were among Britain’s most common mammals but were pushed to the brink of extinction in the face of hunting and the loss of their woodland homes over the past two centuries.”
Pine marten, which is considered the national animal of Croatia, is native to Europe, but it is also found in parts of Asia, including Turkey, Iran, and Iraq. They mostly live in woodland areas and are known for their agility as well as excellent senses of sight, smell, and hearing. A pine marten has a life span of up to 11 years in the wild and up to 18 years in captivity.

]]>According to Koekemoer, she found a bush baby young on the pavement in front of her garage. The first video shows a tiny bush baby that fits in the palm of her hand.
Knowing that the bush baby mother is likely looking for its young, Koekemoer decided to return it to the pavement and play a bush baby call on her smartphone. And it worked.
The second video shows a bush baby mother jumping from the outdoor light installation to the pavement and grabbing her young. She then quickly hops away, likely taking the young to their home.
Bush babies, also known as galagos and nagapies, belong to the primate family and are native to the sub-Saharan region of Africa. They are known for their large eyes, which allow them to have great night vision, as well as their jumping abilities.
Bush babies have a close relationship with their young. Mother doesn’t leave the young for several days after birth and then proceeds to carry them in its mouth. Bush baby young is fed by its mother for the first six weeks of its life and becomes independent after 10 weeks.

]]>The post There Has Been a 40% Increase in Tiger Population Since 2015 Says IUCN appeared first on Our Funny Little Site.
]]>IUCN said that the tiger population is “stable or increasing” on a global scale at the moment. The tiger is still listed as “Endangered” on the IUCN Red List, but it is obvious that increased monitoring and projects like Integrated Tiger Habitat Conservation Programme are giving results.
Finally, the organization predicts that the population of tigers will continue to grow if the conservation efforts continue. This includes putting an end to poaching, expanding the protected areas, and collaborating with local communities that are neighboring tiger habitats.
Tiger is the largest cat species on Earth. It is estimated that more than 100,000 roamed the Earth in the past. This magnificent animal once covered a large area, reaching Turkey on the west, China in the east, and Indonesia in the south. But human activities like poaching and urbanization have put tigers in danger of becoming extinct.
It is estimated that the tiger population declined by 93% in the 20th century alone. Tigers can now be found mostly in India, Bangladesh, China, Russia, and Thailand.

]]>Reddit user Chrissy Joan (@cowskeeper) recently shared an amusing video that shows her playing with a squirrel. The tiny animal jumps all over Joan and seems to be having the time of its life.
“We helped this squirrel when he was a baby, and he comes back to us everyday to play,” wrote Joan in the caption.
The post quickly attracted the attention of other Reddit users, who were impressed by the bond between Joan and Samuel. Many of them wanted to know more, and luckily, Joan delivered. She uploaded several more videos of Samuel while sharing his backstory.
According to Joan, who owns a small farm nearby Vancouver, her family found Samuel when he was a baby. He was in need of help at the time, so Joan contacted one wildlife rescue organization to ask for advice. With the help of professionals, she nursed Samuel back to health and released him to the wild when he got better.
But it turned out that Samuel didn’t want to move away. So the squirrel made a home for himself on a nearby tree and is now visiting every day to get some love from Joan.
