]]>Last week, Foley posted a photo of an adorable tiny owl standing on his couch. He explained that he got acquainted with the owl, who he nicknamed Mr. Hoot, three months ago after learning the bird was living in a tree near his bedroom.
At first, Mr. Hoot would just sit on Foley’s window, and the two would “chat” occasionally. However, the tiny owl got comfortable lately and started entering the house. During one of those visits, he managed to snap a photo.
The Facebook post quickly became viral, with internet users wanting to learn more about his unusual friend. This prompted Foley to get experts to check on Mr. Hoot and he started building a house for him.
“He pops in around 11 p.m., and we chat away,” he told The Dodo. “I keep [a few feet] away from him, just so he feels safe. [I] leave a window open [and] he normally pops out by 6 a.m., back to his favorite walnut tree.”
Since sharing the original story, Foley made several updates saying that the bird is enjoying its time on the property. Mr. Hoot still comes for regular visits, and Foley is talking with experts to see how he can help the bird.

]]>Baby owls, on the other hand, sleep just like baby humans. They lay on their stomach and turn their head to get cozy before surrendering themselves to sweet dreams.
Journalist and author Mark Rees found out this just recently and decided to share the info with his Twitter followers. According to Rees, the reason why baby owls, or owlets, sleep this way is because their head is too big for their body.
It turned out that there were tons of people who also heard about it for the first time, and his tweet quickly went viral.
Owlets are able to sleep like this even when they are on trees. Using the hallux (their back toe), baby owls tightly grip the branches, and that way, they can keep themselves in the same position even when snoozing.
After Rees’ tweet, several other posts about sleeping habits of baby owls resurfaced on Twitter. Check them out below.

]]>This species can be found in North America, Europe and Asia. Long-eared owls often use old nests of other birds like crows, ravens and magpies.
Don’t let the name fool you – great gray owls are not the largest (the heaviest) owls in the world. But with their long tails and fluffy feathers, great gray is the longest species of owls.
The barn owl is the most widespread owl species and is known by many common names such as white owl, silver owl, demon owl, ghost owl, death owl. It can be found in all parts of the world and you can recognize it for its beautiful heart-shaped face.
After some larger species of owls, here comes a tiny one called the northern pygmy owl. It’s native to western North America and is around 6 inches long. Unlike other owl species, northern pygmy owl is also active at dawn and dusk.
This beautiful, medium-sized owl with large ear tufts can be found in South America, and parts of Central America. This owl has shorter wings than its relatives and is a nocturnal creature, so it’s not easily seen.
