“The first moment I met her, she just melted into us,” Rose told The Dodo. “So the plan, from day one, was to just get her to New York, and then get her to fosters. We have two border collies, so that’s enough in New York City.”

However, when people became interested in adopting Rumba, Rose would always find something wrong with the potential adopter. Now she admits that she didn’t want to let go of the doggo.

“I could not picture my life without her in it. There was just something about this dog. I don’t know what it was. We just had this crazy connection. She’s definitely part of the family now,” she added.

Photographer Lauren Casteen Syke often volunteers to take pictures of dogs for the shelter to help them get adopted. Once she heard the story about a pregnant pit bull who was brought to the shelter, she knew that Mama Pickles would be her new model.

“When Pits & Giggles reached out saying that they just brought in a Mama from the shelter that was the proudest, happy and caring little thing, we wanted to take photos to keep those precious moments,” the photographer told Arthusiast.

She organized a lovely maternity photoshoot for Mama Pickles, who posed like a pro in a romantic setting. Needless to say that the internet went crazy over these adorable photos.

Pickles has given birth to eight baby girls and is now spending time recovering and nursing her babies. The story received so much public attention, we have no doubt that they’ll all find a good home when the time comes.

“He kind of crounch-walked,” Road Dogs & Rescue shared with The Dodo. “And he was being given away unfixed. I was like, ‘Oh, no! That just means someone’s going to get him and just breed him as a backyard breeder ‘cause he’s such a good-looking dog.’ He was just a sweet mellow, easygoing guy. I loved that dog!”

Soon, they received an application from a couple based in Michigan. It was love at first sight! The couple traveled all the way to California, bought a car and drove back for about 34 hours.

“For all that he’s gone through and all the stress he’s had in his life, he’s a very well-natured dog, a very loving dog,” Kongo’s owners told The Dodo. “He’s good with the kids – our granddaughters. He likes to be with us all the time. He likes to be loved on.”

“His tail was wagging, so we knew that was a good sign,” Fair shared with The Dodo. “So the plan was to take him in, wash him and see if he had owners and we took him back to Victoria’s grandparents’ house.”

When the time come for Fair and Martinez to go home, they decided they couldn’t leave Taíno there.

“We were just hoping we weren’t going to leave him and then come back,” Martinez shared with The Dodo. “’Cause a lot of the research said importing dogs to Puerto Rico takes about a 30-day quarantine. They checked his skin, they checked him for fleas, they took his blood work. To find out we were able to bring him home that week, was awesome.”

However, the couple soon discovered that he had a bump on his leg and needed surgery. Fortunately, the procedure went well, and Taíno was as happy as ever.

When Carl got better, he was ready to go to his foster home, where his foster mom took such good care of him. They went everywhere together and had such a wonderful time.

Thanks to his adorable looks, the puppy got so many adoption proposals, however, in the end, he found the most perfect mom. Carl even became an ambassador for all the tiny dogs out there.

Lauren Gauthier is today thankful that her dog Victoria was persistent at sniffing the odd red spot on her nose until she went to check it.

“It really is amazing that my dog was so persistent in sniffing the area that was skin cancer,” Gauthier says. “The surgery itself has changed my face, and if my dog had not picked up on it, I may have ignored the spot, which could have risked further disfigurement. Hounds have a keen sense of smell but I never thought that I would personally benefit from it!”

“I am so thankful for Victoria. She and I have always had a close bond and she senses when I’m upset or stressed; I had no idea she’d be able to detect that I had cancer lurking underneath my skin,” she continues. “What is particularly rewarding is that I adopted her through the rescue that I founded, (Magic’s Mission Beagle & Hound Rescue, Inc.) and devote much of my life to saving hounds who have been abused or neglected. It seems Victoria and her keen skills are the way that the hounds decided to give back to me.”
