In many ways, Emily Yeadon’s adult life and artistic creation mirror her early childhood. Growing up in the countryside in a rural hamlet, deep in the North of England, she describes her childhood in pretty idyllic terms.

“I spent the majority of my childhood playing in our secluded and overgrown back garden,” she recalled in an interview with Enchanted Living Magazine. “I was absolutely fascinated by animals, and I was desperate for them to be my friend.”

Having spent her entire childhood immersed in nature, nature is also the driving force behind her art work. “At a young age I became pretty good at identifying birds and insects, and that connection has remained with me,” she notes.

Known for her incredible textile art, her work reminds of traditional taxidermy, but with no animals hurt during the process. Moths, butterflies, bees, but also moss and mushrooms, are meticulously recreated using fabrics, threads, and paint. “When starting on anything new, I almost always begin by researching three things: the creature, its colorings, patterns, and structure; the techniques I’ll need to use; and the materials I’ll require,” explains Yeadon.

And while the creation process itself takes time and effort, inspiration comes relatively easy. “Woodlands and forests are a huge inspiration for me,” says Yeadon. “I regard them as being my ‘magical place,’ a place deep in nature that awakens my imagination.”

Canadian artist Rose Tanner dedicates her work almost entirely to birds. Using traditional oil painting techniques, she captures birds in flight, nesting, and going about their daytoday. The end result is uncannily lifelike, zooming in on the mysterious, magnification, lives of birds.

Some of her paintings include endangered birds, calling to mind the importance of protecting avian species. “Endangered birds are a gauge to the health of our environment,” Tanner writes on her website.

“By protecting the endangered we reassess our environment and our actions to come up with solutions for the species survival. It leads to growth, education, community and improves the environment, wouldn’t you say these are all great reasons to protect the endangered?”

Finished! Spring 24×30 Oil on Linen.

A post shared by Oil Painter – Bird Art (@rosetannerart) on

Having studied illustration at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and oil painting with Daniel Keys as well as several other contemporary master painters, Tanner now utilizes her talent to develop and promote the work of others, teaching and sharing her knowledge of classical oil painting.

But her work also includes a lot of research, as she studies her subjects outdoors. “One time I travelled 12,000 kilometers for a species,” she recalled in a piece posted on Artsy Shark. “Crazy, right?” According to Tanner, many people do not see birds because they are small and fleeting. “But with a long lens, I have witnessed extraordinary behaviour that inspires me deeply,” she explains.

Multi-disciplinary artist Patrick Cabral is recognized for his brilliant paper cutting skill, layering – layer by layer – delicate pieces of paper to create mesmerizing portraits and sculptures of animals.

His most viral series, launched in 2017, was dedicated to endangered species of animals, highlighting the preciousness of animals and what we stand to lose if we don’t act fast. “My art can help educate the younger generation about the plight of these species,” remarked Cabral. “I want everyone to go beyond social media and contribute their time and presence to causes that are important to them.”

Cabral practices what he preaches. With support from the philanthropic organization Acts of Kindness, and in partnership with World Wildlife Fund Philippines, Cabral’s work is being used to educate with half of his sculpture sales donated to WWF-Philippines.

What does the future hold for this paper art master? In an interview with spot.ph, he stressed that he’s obsessed with the “math of design” but that ultimately, he wants to make a personal impact. “I’m just trying to capture awe,” he says, “to make your brain freeze and say, ‘This is not possible.’”

he continues to be obsessed with the “math of design”—something that seems to be fundamental to his art-making. But ultimately, he wants to make a personal impact: “I’m just trying to capture awe,” says Cabral, “to make your brain freeze and say, ‘This is not possible.’”

His artwork is mostly inspired by love, dreams, and family, but also the beauties of the world, nature and animals. That’s why most of his creations feature children and animals such as monkeys, lions, giraffes, and elephants. You’ll have to take some time to understand the deep meanings of his fantasy worlds and that’s exactly what makes his art so special.

“I transform my dreams in to pieces of art. My biggest inspiration is my own imagination and my children. I love to mix illusion with reality to create completely new worlds,” the artist wrote on his website.

“When you use your imagination, anything is possible. I love to play with darkness and light. I believe they go hand in hand.”

Naoto Hattori is a Japanese artist who paints small fluffy animals in surreal style, giving them huge eyes to turn them into unnatural hybrids. His subjects typically have round heads and oversized eyes, and he often makes hybrids by turning two animals into one.

His paintings are small and usually range from 85 to 92” without a frame. “When I closed my eyes, I could see a colorful eye like a mandala and it kept changing shape like a kaleidoscope. I drew hundreds of the eye images. Back then, I was thinking that it was something everyone could see,” he told This Is Colossal.

When he got older, he earned a BFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts. The surreal paintings he creates are in his unique style. As he says, he likes painting concepts that can’t be exactly expressed in words, like emotions and feelings. That’s why, without him intending to, his works end up being surreal.

Erica Eriksdotter is a Sweden-born artist who paints amazing pet portraits that capture the personality and emotions of animals in the perfect way. This talented artist actually worked as a PR for years, but she quit her job to become a full-time painter.

Painting was Erica’s passion ever since she was a little girl and she sold her first painting at the age of 10. Now she specializes in pet portraits and she’s an expert in capturing their spirit and immortalizing that special bond between pets and their owners.

“I ask my customers to provide me with photos of their animal, which often includes long emotional emails filled with tales of love and loss. I love those emails. I review the photos and “tap into” their furry friend’s likeness and personality. I let the pet’s character come to me,” Eriksdotter explained her creative process in an interview for My Modern Met.

Anna Yastrezhembovskaya is a remarkable artist whose work will make your jaw drop. This mom of two makes the most realistic animals by only using wool. The hand-felted creatures are so accurately done, you can easily mistake them for a real bat, hedgehog, bird, or a baby chick.

“My first toy wasn’t nearly as pretty, it was rather funny. But I enjoyed the process so much that I kept trying. I was felting during my free time, even at night, and I got better with each toy I made. I am flattered that my bats won the hearts of so many people, but the amount of orders I got was terrifying,” Anna told ModernMet.

Anna Yastrezhembovskaya usually needs around 10 days to finish a single animal. Just by hearing this you already know how much effort and love this artist puts in her work. She usually works 12 to 14 hours each day and sells tons of her cute animals on Etsy. Although she admits her first try was not as successful, you can check out how amazing she’s become in the pictures below. The animal which made her so popular and trending is the adorable bat she made for her daughter.

Jennifer Gennari is an American painter and a big animal lover who specializes in painting beautiful animal portraits. She started painting animals five years ago after she got bored with painting humans and the first animals on her canvas were hairless cats.

“Jennifer has been painting animals since 2014 and is driven by a deeply rooted passion to elevate and legitimize the life we have with them. Her work is the definition of Labor of Love,” her website states.

Her talent soon gained a lot of attention and Jennifer started receiving a lot of commissions. This naturally led her to continue with her work, and today the artist says that she absolutely enjoys working with animals. Jennifer says she loves painting their portraits on canvas, but she’s also doing her best to capture their personality.

Gennari has an undergraduate degree in art from the College of Art and Design in Florida and she also studied in Italy at the Florence Academy of Art. She has exhibited her artwork in many countries around the world and received several awards for her work.
