]]> Most kids eventually reach a point when they have to say goodbye to their pets, but Caitlin Doran never had to deal with that. She was seven years old when her family adopted an African tortoise called Tiptoe, and they’ve been best friends ever since.

Doran always wanted to have an unusual pet, and her wish finally came true one Christmas morning, when she was just seven years old. She asked Santa for an African tortoise, and he granted her wish, giving her the best companion that she could possibly hope for – an adorable turtle named Tiptoe.

She asked for a tortoise because she wanted a pet that she could spend a lot of time with, and Tiptoe hasn’t left her side ever since. Taking care of a tortoise doesn’t always come easy, but she did everything to make it work.

“It is such a learning process because each tortoise is so different and you have to learn the signals, he gives you… Keeping up with him as he grows older has been challenging because we do have to make a lot of modifications… He is with me forever. It’s literally a package deal,” she told Fox News.

Doran and Tiptoe now live in Los Angeles and their friendship wowed people around the world after Doran started sharing their videos on TikTok, where Tiptoe is followed by 4.5 million people.

]]> When the 25-year-old tortoise lover Gaia decided to welcome Hermann’s tortoise Mia into her home, she had no idea her life would turn upside down. It didn’t take her long to become a true tortoise expert, and she’s now sharing her knowledge with the community of turtle lovers on Instagram.

Gaia is the mastermind behind the popular Instagram page @thetortoise.mia, which she launched after adopting her tortoise Mia. She welcomed her into her home in late 2022, when she was still a hatchling, fresh out of the soil.

“I’m a tortoise lover and endlessly researcher about the topic since when I was a child. I grew up with a tortoise breeder as a family member so I got the chance to live with these beautiful animals since the very beginning! Mia is the first tortoise I actually own, but I’ve taken care of a lot of them in the past,” she wrote on her Instagram page.

You’ll find countless cute videos of Mia on Gaia’s Instagram, but that’s not the main reason why she decided to start a page for her pet. She actually graduated to be a teacher before adopting her first tortoise, and she’s using Instagram to spread awareness and help other tortoise lovers take the best possible care of their pets.

]]> People mostly have cats, dogs, or parrots as their pets. However, there are other fun animals you can keep in your home. Like, for example, a tortoise. You might be wondering how can a tortoise make for a good companion. Well, keep scrolling to find out!

Chas from through the lleaves is a content creator, plant and animal lover, and mom of Fig, a baby leopard tortoise. The palm-size reptile has a wonderful life filled with daily spas, flower hats, and yummy snacks.

Fig’s mornings begin by greeting his mom with a big yawn, and then he is ready to start the day. First, he gets a morning mist for hydration. Then, his mom changes his water, and while he freshens up, she begins to prep his daily salad.

“Leopard tortoise are gazers in the wild so leafy greens, grasses, flowers, and succulents are their fav,” Chas shared with her Instagram community.

After having breakfast, he gets a daily spa to rehydrate and hangs out with his mom while she works. Fig loves his feline siblings and gets along with them very well. He even likes to cuddle with his best friend, Gouda.

He also likes playing dress up. Fig wears edible flower hats and other cute fashionable pieces like a cowboy or Santa hat.

He was born with a spinal deformity, and couldn’t use his back legs, because they stick straight up into the air. He was having a hard time getting around, but his dad found a perfect solution; he put fingerboard wheels on him.

“He just took right off! It was like a new tortoise. From then on, he just kind of thrived. Drinking by himself, eating by himself. And is a totally different personality. When his wheels aren’t on, it’s almost like he’s defeated, like, ‘I’m not as good as I can be,” Helix’s dad shared with The Dodo. “You put the wheels on and he explores his enclosure, he runs around.”

]]> Etheltheglamourtort is an Instagram profile dedicated to an adorable sulcata tortoise called Ethel. Her mom and dad are so in love with her that they set up their bedroom as a tortoise playhouse. They also like to explore amazing places in matching outfits.

“We’re not interested in having our own children, so Ethel is 100 percent our baby,” her mom Kasey Cauliflower told The Dodo. “She’s like a toddler. Pretty much all day every day you just follow her around cleaning up her messes.”

Her mom and dad are trying their best to make her as happy as possible. However, Ethel, just like every little toddler likes to get into trouble.

“She’ll be lying there, and she’ll just look at you with her little grin, and then you’re just like, ‘Ooohh, bless her little heart.’ And then two seconds later, she’s knocking over the garbage can and creating a huge mess. She can destroy our house.”

]]> Animals enjoy celebrating birthdays and enjoy being showered with treats just as much as humans. This is why the Pennsylvania Zoo recently decided to throw a cute birthday party for their 60-year-old Aldabra tortoise Henry and made sure he enjoyed his special day to the fullest.  

After realizing that Henry is about to be six decades old, Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland knew that they had to do something special. So, they started putting together a party for the tortoise, announcing the event on social media and inviting everyone to come and join the festivities.

When the big day came, zookeepers decorated the place and even put on a birthday cap for Henry. Then, the birthday boy got treated with a gorgeous looking cake made out of his favorite fruit that he got to devour all by himself. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland later shared a video from the party, which amazed animal lovers and quickly went viral.

Zoo’s spokesperson Kalin Palmatier told INSIDER that they often do these kinds of celebrations for their animals and like to have visitors take part in the events.

“We decided to throw him a special party for this milestone because we love to treat our animals on special occasions like this,” – said Palmatier. “We felt turning 60 warranted a celebration!”

]]> Henry is an 18-year-old sulcata tortoise with a pretty big following on Instagram – that’s not something that many tortoises have. His mom Amanda Green adopted him four years ago hoping she would temporarily foster him, but “ended up falling in love.”

“I was like, ‘If he needs a forever home, I’ll be that for him!'” Amanda shares her experience as a tortoise owner. “Henry definitely has a personality … more than I anticipated. He’s really social, he’s curious. … He’s never really in his shell. Henry will greet anyone who comes into the apartment.”

]]> Animals enjoy celebrating birthdays and enjoy being showered with treats just as much as humans. This is why the Pennsylvania Zoo recently decided to throw a cute birthday party for their 60-year-old Aldabra tortoise Henry and made sure he enjoyed his special day to the fullest.  

After realizing that Henry is about to be six decades old, Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland knew that they had to do something special. So, they started putting together a party for the tortoise, announcing the event on social media and inviting everyone to come and join the festivities.

When the big day came, zookeepers decorated the place and even put on a birthday cap for Henry. Then, the birthday boy got treated with a gorgeous looking cake made out of his favorite fruit that he got to devour all by himself. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland later shared a video from the party, which amazed animal lovers and quickly went viral.

Zoo’s spokesperson Kalin Palmatier told INSIDER that they often do these kinds of celebrations for their animals and like to have visitors take part in the events.

“We decided to throw him a special party for this milestone because we love to treat our animals on special occasions like this,” – said Palmatier. “We felt turning 60 warranted a celebration!”

]]> Henry is an 18-year-old sulcata tortoise with a pretty big following on Instagram – that’s not something that many tortoises have. His mom Amanda Green adopted him four years ago hoping she would temporarily foster him, but “ended up falling in love.”

“I was like, ‘If he needs a forever home, I’ll be that for him!'” Amanda shares her experience as a tortoise owner. “Henry definitely has a personality … more than I anticipated. He’s really social, he’s curious. … He’s never really in his shell. Henry will greet anyone who comes into the apartment.”
