If you love cats so much that you want them to overtake every aspect of your life—you’re not alone. Ashely of June and Gem is a talented ceramics artist from Washington, and she became a true sensation once she started making cat-inspired creations.
Ashely always loved cats, but she didn’t expect them to become her main subject when she decided to become an artist. She majored in interdisciplinary visual arts at the University of Washington and now mostly specializes in ceramics, illustration, and linocut printmaking.
It took some time before she started making her signature cat sculptures, but they’ve actually been a part of her life for as long as she can remember. She loved animal figurine toys growing up, and creating them on her own took her years back, to the time when she used to collect tiny animal toys as a kid.
She once made a couple of cat sculptures to fill the empty space on her table at a local market – and the rest is history!
“I always thought I’d be an artist, but I never thought I’d be a cat artist. I thought I’d be a much more serious artist with my work in galleries, but making cute, not-so-serious art has honestly been so life-changing and the best decision I have ever made!” she wrote on Instagram.
