Kim Karanikolaou Uses Dog Hair to Create Amazing Pet Portraits

Many dog owners enjoy having portraits of their beloved pets, and Kim Karanikolaou has come up with an unusual way to bring them to life. The British fiber artist is using her special talent to capture the essence of her adorable canine subjects by using their own hair.

Karanikolaou is based in the UK, and she became a true sensation on social media after putting an interesting twist on fiber art. Instead of simply sticking to using thread and wool, she turned to an unconventional medium, using real dog hair!

Most of Karanikolaou’s portraits are commissions from dog owners, looking for a way to have their precious pets immortalized. She does a great job capturing the spirit of each animal she “paints”, helping their owners get a tangible portrayal of the bond they share with their beloved furry companions.

Even though most of Karanikolaou’s portraits are made with the dog’s own hair, there are exceptions to this rule. In one of her Instagram posts, Karanikolaou explained that the hair isn’t long enough when it comes to short-haired breeds, so she usually uses wool instead. Wool is also the main material she turns to when creating tiny details, such as eyes, which require a lot of patience and a light touch.
