Nick Bishop has been fascinated with wild animals for as long as he can remember, and his childhood obsession became a full-time career. He’s now known by the nickname Nick the Wrangler, and he became a viral sensation after sharing his special talent with the world.
Bishop grew up in Portland, Oregon, and fell in love with the idea of being an animal handler while watching The Crocodile Hunter. He dreamt about hosting his own show one day, while trying to hone his skills by catching snakes, lizards, and amphibians in his neighborhood.
“In the beginning, everything Nick learned about animal handling was self-taught, since he did not have access to training, schooling, or mentors in the animal field. Lack of formal education didn’t stop him though; he fully immersed himself in pursuing his passion and honing his craft,” he explains on his official website.
After moving to Los Angeles at 18 and working in the film industry for several years, Bishop decided to start filming his own adventures. He joined Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube under the moniker Nick the Wrangler and attracted hundreds of thousands of followers with his viral videos.
Animal handling may seem easy to master when you watch Bishop’s videos, but it’s anything but. He’s constantly stressing the importance of the right handling techniques and pointing out you shouldn’t handle wild animals without years of experience and proper tools and precautions.
