We can all agree that having your blood sample taken is an uncomfortable experience. However, as much as we humans don’t like the procedure, animals feel worse about it. They are not aware of what’s happening and often believe someone is hurting them on purpose.
While some animals end up handling the procedure well, others are understandably too scared to cooperate. Luckily, veterinarians usually have a few tricks up their sleeve to make them feel better or at least distract them long enough. We particularly liked the one employed by the staff of Hawthorn Vets, a UK-based veterinary clinic.
In a recent viral video shared on Hawthorn Vets’ official TikTok, a group of nurses can be serenading one nervous dog while he is getting his blood sample taken. They have also provided him with lots of scratches and pets, which helped him undergo the procedure as a pro.
“It’s important that our patients feel relaxed and comfortable. This wonderful dog enjoyed a bottom scratch with a chin tickle and along with the song didnt flinch whilst his blood was taken. A gold patient!” Hawthorn Vets wrote in the caption of the video that was viewed close to one million times since being shared last week.
