Asian water monitors are one of the world’s largest lizard species, and they’re commonly known as black dragons. Having them as pets is not an easy task, but that didn’t stop Cheyenne Acero Glass from giving it a try, and she’s now known as the Real Khaleesi.
Glass’s social media nickname is a reference to the Game of Thrones character Daenerys Targaryen, known as the Mother of Dragons. This is one thing they have in common since Glass shares her home with two pretty unusual pets—black dragons Kayda and Killua.
“Black dragon” is a common term that refers to the lizard species also known as water monitors. They’re one of the most sought-after pet monitor lizards due to their distinctive color, and Glass couldn’t resist their charm.
She became a true social media sensation since she started sharing snippets of her life with Kayda and Killua with the world, but she admits that taking care of them isn’t as easy as she makes it seem.
“It was a lot of hard work and I still socialize with them on a daily basis. Black dragons are not your average household pet and they are expensive to care for. Before getting a black dragon or large lizard understand it’s a huge and long commitment,” she explains on her Instagram.
