Meet Anaka: A Gorilla Whose Fingers Look Human-Like

Anaka is a 6-year-old gorilla living her best life at Zoo Atlanta. However, she has an interesting detail on her left hand; she was born with a lack of pigmentation on her fingers. And if you look closely, it looks remarkably human-like.

Anaka is a one of her kind, not only because of her skin, but because of her personality as well.

“She is the grandchild of the legendary late Willie B., Anaka was the 22nd gorilla born in The Ford African Rain Forest,” they wrote on their personal website “[She’s] often barking at her mom and others to get a prime spot for food and juice. She is often seen riding piggyback on her brother and sisters.”

Some people are convinced that Anaka has vitiligo, a long-term skin condition characterized by patches of the skin losing their pigment. But according to the zoo it isn’t.

“Well, her skin pigment has always been like that and hasn’t changed over the years, so we think it’s just a cool birthmark.”
