Rags to Rags to Riches Animal Rescue in Tampa, Florida saved the lives of countless animals over the years, and one of them became a bona fide TikTok star. Persian cat Wisp won over millions of people all around the world with her “scrungly” appearance and sassy personality.
Wisp ended up at Rags to Riches Animal Rescue when its owner Dominque Amerosa saved her mother after an unknown culprit started dumping Persian cats all around her neighborhood. She started bottle feeding her because she couldn’t latch onto her mother, and Wisp went on to develop several health issues, including a respiratory infection and an intestinal stricture.
Wisp’s cheerful personality helped her face many challenges, and she became a true internet sensation after Amerosa started sharing her videos online. Her appearance drew comparisons to Frank Gallagher from Shameless and old childhood toys, but that’s exactly the part of her charm.
“Everyone was just commented ‘Another scrungly cat’ and I was like ‘What does that mean?’ They explained it meant a cat that just looks icky, that looks like your childhood stuffed animal that’s very loved … and they’re right,” Amerosa told Florida Today.
Wisp is only one of many animals Amerosa saved since starting Rags to Riches Animal Rescue, which oversees over 60 cats and around 30 dogs.
