Animal organization North Canaan Animal Control recently shared a “crazy story with a very happy ending” about a dog named Rippy who saved himself from a rock quarry with loud barks, and it’s one of those stories everyone should know about.

Earlier in May, an unnamed individual was passing by a rock quarry in North Canaan, Connecticut, when he heard dog barks. He notified North Canaan Animal Control, and its animal control officer Lindsay Burr immediately headed to the site. Unfortunately, despite hearing the barks themselves, they couldn’t locate the dog even after using a drone.

Burr returned to the quarry the next day, having a pretty good idea about the dog in need of help. She talked with a pet owner who said their dog Rippy, a 30 lb Terrier mix, went missing in the same area.

When quarry workers told her that they couldn’t assist her in rescuing the dog, who was still barking for help, Burr contacted the local rope rescue team and firefighters, who were happy to help. It wasn’t long before two rescuers made 50 feet descent and found Rippy. The dog, which likely fell from the cliff and couldn’t get out on his own, was exhausted but avoided major injuries.

“Rippy was caught and safely brought back up the cliff.  I called his owner right away who came and picked him up so he could go home to decompress , get cleaned up and then checked out. I want to thank everyone who was involved in this crazy rescue.  Rippy’s mom thanks everyone as well!!  He is one very lucky dog to have survived a fall off one of those cliffs!!” Burr wrote on Facebook while sharing several photos from the rescue mission.

Paying just a bit more attention is sometimes enough to prevent disasters and tragic events. A recent rescue story shared by Colorado Parks and Wildlife definitely proves it.

In a recent X (former Twitter) post, Colorado Parks and Wildlife detailed a story about how two mountain lion cubs were saved from a spillway thanks to an attentive dam operator.

Mike Canterbury, who works as a dam tender at Pine River Irrigation District, was getting ready to release water in the spillway when he noticed something strange inside. There were two mountain lion cubs cuddled together on the concrete and unable to get out.

Canterbury immediately notified Colorado Parks and Wildlife, who sent wildlife officers to the site. After arriving, the experts managed to rescue one lion cub with a creative technique. They dangled a rope in front of it, and the cub ended up catching it. The animal was then lifted to safety and immediately ran to the forest.

The second lion cub wasn’t interested in getting out the same way, prompting Wildlife Officer Ty Smith to get down in the spillway. After successfully catching the animal, the wildlife officers got it out, and the cub ended up following its brother to the woods. But not before it played around a bit.

Animal charity organization Arizona Humane Society recently shared an amazing story about how a “good Samaritan” spotted an abandoned dog on a mountain and then waited for two hours with her for help to come.

Back in April, an unnamed individual was hiking the Lookout Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, when he suddenly noticed something unusual in the rocks. There was a scared and exhausted dog nestled in a small hole on the side of the mountain. Its fur was the same color as the surroundings and he only managed to spot her thanks to its piercing eyes.

The man acted quickly, contacting the Arizona Humane Society to ask for help. The charity immediately sent two of their staffers on the field, knowing that the dog has probably been out there for a long time and needs to be taken care of ASAP. Due to circumstances, the staffers managed to be one the scene two hours later, but the man was still there, making sure he can give them the exact location.

After arriving on the scene, AHS’ field operations manager Ruthie Jesus and her colleague Tracey Miiller immediately started the rescue procedure.

“She was really sweet and letting me pet her head, but she absolutely did not want to come out of that den, so I kind of had to just sort of pull her out,” Jesus said in a video shared by AHS.

Eventually, they managed to get the dog out, giving her water and checking for injuries. The pupper had some cuts on its paws and laceration on the back end, but fortunately, none of her injuries were life-threatening.

Due to rough terrain, Miiller and Jesus ended up carrying the dog all the way down from the mountain. Knowing she is headed to safety, the canine was calm the entire time.

“She was just so dehydrated. I think she’d probably been up there several days and that was probably her last day, and this Good Samaritan really just saved her life,” Jesus concluded.

The forests of South Sumatra in Indonesia echo with the sound of music provided by a pair of rare signing gibbons. The gibbons Jon and Cimung, belonging to rare Siamang species, found a new home there after being rescued from illegal traders by The Aspinall Foundation.

The Aspinall Foundation shared the story on their Facebook page, revealing that Jon and Cimung are now residents of the newly established dedicated Siamang rehabilitation center in South Sumatra.

“The pair settled into their new surroundings very quickly and were singing within hours of their release, which is a very good sign,” said the organization while sharing several photos of gibbons enjoying their newly-found freedom.

The Aspinall Foundation animal experts will not leave the gibbons on their own just yet and will monitor them for the next four months in order to make sure they get accustomed to their surroundings.

All the gibbon species have the ability to sing thanks to their enlarged vocal sacks. However, Siamang gibbons are considered to have the most powerful vocal capabilities of them all. This makes them a target for illegal pet traders, which is why their numbers have been shrinking in recent years. They are rare to find in the wild nowadays, but the case of Jon and Cimung shows that all is not lost for these beautiful animals.

Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust, a conservation charity based in Cornwall, UK, recently shared a fascinating story about one seal’s long road to comfort.

A seal named Commuter was first spotted back in 2017 by one Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust volunteer, who noticed that the marine mammal had a plastic ring around its neck. The organization reached out to British Divers Marine Life Rescue in an attempt to help the seal, but their attempts over the years proved unsuccessful.

Commuter itself out of reach, making rescue attempts either impossible or too dangerous, while living in a state of discomfort.

Luckily, on January 14, Commuter came on shore that was accessible and British Divers Marine Life Rescue immediately went into action. They managed to capture the seal and remove the ring. Upon further inspection, they discovered that the ring didn’t cause Commuter any long-term consequences and that he could be released immediately.

“The plastic noose was a seal from an anti-foul paint tin. Commuter’s wound was not as bad as we had feared, so it was safe to release him right away and give him a second chance back out in the wild!” Cornwall Seal Group Research Trust wrote on Facebook.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue later shared the video of the rescue action on social media. Check it out below.

TikTok user Maliah Wilson recently shared a touching video that documents the story of a dog named Zen, who was rescued from the dog sledding industry. His story is a heartbreaking one but comes with a happy ending.

According to the video, which went viral, Zen spent nine years on a chain in the sledding industry before arriving at Wilson’s home. The clip shows that the dog was in really poor condition and scared of human interaction. But Wilson didn’t intend to give up on trying, showing him that not all humans are bad.

With time, love, and patience, Wilson managed to gain Zen’s trust. Soon, the smile returned to Zen’s face, and he became just another jolly pupper who enjoyed cuddling and playing.

“And he ended up helping me more than I could have ever helped him. There is so much good in this world,” Wilson wrote in the video.

A group of beachgoers recently spotted a seal pup in need of help at the shore of Kilkee, Ireland. They immediately notified the wildlife rescue center Sea Rescue Ireland, and thanks to their quick reaction, the sea creature had its life saved.

Sea Rescue Ireland shared the story of a sea pup’s rescue on Facebook. According to their post, the sea pup, later named Tralee, was found lethargic, injured, and underweight. During the initial exam, a number of wounds were discovered on her flippers, and she was also infected with parasites.

After her wounds were cleaned, Tralee received antibiotics and pain relief medicines before starting deworming treatment. As the days went by, the sea pup started looking better and stronger while displaying her charming personality.

“She has responded well to treatment, and now that we see her personality shining through, it’s no surprise she draws a crowd. She certainly has star quality and leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes,” Seal Rescue Ireland wrote in the post.

While her health improved greatly, Tralee will remain in the wildlife center for the time being. After experts determine she is fully ready to return to the wild, she will be released to her natural habitat.

One homeowner from Minnesota spent weeks trying to capture a mysterious hairless animal that they believed needed help. Their efforts paid off, and they saved the animal, which turned out to be a red fox with a case of mange.

The homeowner set up a number of traps in an effort to contain the animal, but it proved to be really clever and constantly managed to get away.

Finally, after a number of back and forths, the homeowner succeded in their attention and brought the animal to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota (WRC). The staff at WRC identified the animal as a red fox with a severe case of mange. Mange is a type of skin illness that is caused by parasitic mites and causes the animals to lose their fur.

After spending more than a month in the hospital, the clever red fox started recovering. It has grown back its fur and became more energetic by the day.

“Anyone could see that this fox was more than ready to return home, and so as soon as our vets were confident he no longer needed supportive care, back to the wild he went,” WRC wrote in a Facebook post while attaching a video of animal’s return to its natural habitat.

Helping animals doesn’t take much effort, but it can mean a difference between life and death for them. Sometimes, a simple call to animal rescuers is enough to do the trick, but one Pennsylvania native was willing to do even more for a skunk mother in distress.

In a recent Facebook post, animal organization Raven Ridge Wildlife Center from Washington Boro, Pennsylvania, shared a story about how a woman named Laura helped save a skunk that had its head stuck in a can.

As soon as she noticed the skunk in her driveway, Laura placed a call to Raven Ridge Wildlife Center. Worried that the skunk might get away before the help came, staff told her to try and capture it. Laura obliged, getting creative and trapping the animal in a clothes basket.

After the skunk made its way to Raven Ridge Wildlife Center, the veterinarians sedated it and removed the can. During a checkup, they discovered that the skunk gave birth to babies recently and needed to be reunited with them as soon as possible.

“Laura was more than happy to help, and we quickly got the skunk back to her home the same day she was admitted. As she ran towards the tree line, we knew she knew exactly where she was,” Raven Ridge Wildlife Center wrote in the Facebook post.

Beagle Freedom Project, the California-based organization for rescuing animals used in experimental research, recently shared a touching video of a rabbit that gets its first taste of freedom.

According to the organization, Holly the rabbit spent her entire life in a “tiny cage being tested on.” After being freed by the Beagle Freedom Project team from a testing lab, Holly was brought to their rescue facilities and encouraged to get outside and hop on the grass for the first time.

Initially, Holly was afraid of the outdoors, choosing to stay in her carrier. But after being bribed with a juicy carrot, the bunny finally finds the courage to come out.

The rabbit can later be seen enjoying green pastures, getting snuggles, and overall embracing her newfound freedom.

Holly quickly captured the hearts of social media users, while Beagle Freedom Project received praise for their actions.

“Thank you for saving her, you are doing amazing things,” one TikToker wrote.

“she’s so pretty i’m crying,” another added.

Holly is currently staying at Beagle Freedom Project’s facilities but the organization is working on finding it a new home and a family that will shower it with love.
