Viral Video Shows a Parrot Trying to Carry a Human to Safety

We know that parrots can be quite affectionate towards humans. But it turns out that their affection doesn’t just reflect in wanting to give us cuddles. They also want to protect us from harm’s way.

Animal rescue organization GCCB Rescue & Adoption recently shared a clip that shows a parrot named Kiwi resting on a man’s shoulder. After hearing the sound of a doorbell, Kiwi gets scared and wants to escape. However, he doesn’t want to leave the man behind and tries to carry them to safety.

Kiwi’s rescue attempt quickly went viral with the video receiving close to 740K likes and thousands of comments.

“Thought my bird was the only one confused enough to think he’s a guard dog,” one Instagram user commented.

“man I also want a Parrot now,” another added.

GCCB Rescue & Adoption is a Chicago, Illinois-based non-profit that provides shelter for homeless exotic cage birds and tries to find them a new home. They run an adoption center in Villa Park, Illinois, so if you would like to own a protective parrot as Kiwi, give them a visit. You can also send a donation to support their cause, considering they are a 100% volunteer-run organization.
