After adopting an adorable four-year-old Chihuahua named Max from a local shelter, TikTok user Kalee McGee was surprised with how well-behaved the dog is. He knew what a crate was and walked great on a leash. But there was one problem: Max didn’t want to listen to his new owners.
McGee spent weeks trying to get Max to listen to simple commands like “sit,” but her attempts proved futile. Eventually, she figured out that the dog only spoke Spanish.
“Our little Chihuahua doesn’t know English and has been looking at as like ‘What are you talking about?’” McGee shared in a video posted on TikTok that documented her unusual story.
In the same clip, McGee can be seen demonstrating Max’s ability to only speak Spanish. She tells him to “come” in English, but the dog remains still. But after repeating the command in Spanish, the pupper immediately obliges.
“I don’t speak Spanish so I know that wasn’t the best, we’ve been relying on Google Translate, but please, if you have anything else, let me know, cause I would love to see how smart this cute little man is,” McGee says at the end of the video.
