Meet Sparky, a Piglet Who Was Rescued From an Old Basement

Sleepy Pig Farm Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit vegan farmed animal sanctuary based in Granville, New York. There lives a special pig named Sparky. He was found in someone’s basement, but once Tiffany and Joe rescued him, his life only went up from there.

Sparky was only three weeks old and in terrible condition when he was found. He was covered in mange, a parasitic disease of the skin caused by one of two mites, either Sarcoptes scabiei or Demodex phylloides.

Because of his condition, Tiffany and Joe had to isolate the piglet and wear gloves when touching him. He showed his true colors when his skin got better: a black pig with pink spots.

At first, Sparky was afraid, but as days went by, he got used to his new life. Soon enough, he was running the sanctuary. He gets along great with everyone—including the chickens who like to share their snacks with their little friend.

Although he is small and super-cute, his mom and dad know that he will get bigger, like other pigs.

“He is 12 pounds, but Sparky, one day, will be a couple of hundred pounds. I hope that people understand that pigs don’t stay as small as Sparky. They will still be super cute forever, but they will get bigger,” they said in an interview for The Dodo.
