San Antonio Zoo Offering a One-Of-A-Kind Drive-Thru Experience

Drive-thru establishments have been around almost as long as cars. But these types of services were usually reserved for theaters, food chains, and pharmacies. Well, at least until now.

In order to allow Texans to witness some rare animals, while also adhering to social distancing rules imposed due to coronavirus pandemic, San Antonio Zoo decided to introduce first and one-of-a-kind drive-thru experience.

The zoo will offer families and individuals the opportunity to see lions, tigers, reptiles, and other magnificent animals while staying safe inside their cars. The staff created a drive-thru route that passes through the entire zoo while enhancing the experience by giving the visitors an audio tour guide.

“This is a very unique and safe way for families to see the zoo while we are closed from the comfort of their own car,” said San Antonio Zoo’s president Tim Morrow. “This new, creative way to see the zoo will be a gradual step towards our plan to reopen to foot traffic when we are given the ‘green light’ and the time is right.”

Initially, San Antonio Zoo intended to host the drive-thru tours only for one weekend, but the tickets sold out in less than two hours. Due to this overwhelming response, they now decided to extend the offer through May 17th.

According to Morrow, this idea won’t just benefit animal lovers but also the zoo itself, as they are facing some financial difficulties after being closed for so long.

“The overwhelming response to Drive-Thru Zoo, which sold out in less than two hours for the original three dates, is very promising for us during this difficult time,” he added.
